Antes é importante que nos lembremos da estrutura da voz ativa e como ela se transforma em passiva. Vocês vão notar como ela se assemelha com a maneira que a estruturamos em português.
Em linhas gerais, na voz ativa, temos um sujeito praticando uma ação, ou seja, a informação principal é que alguém está fazendo alguma coisa.
Na voz passiva, essa coisa, ou objeto, se torna o sujeito, e o autor da ação se transforma no agente da passiva. Dessa forma, a informação principal é a ação desempenhada:
Voz ativa………..Daniel makes the chocolate cake.
Voz passiva…….The chocolate cake is made by Daniel.
Mas é importante deixar claro que nem sempre o agente da passiva é usado. Isso acontece quando ele é óbvio ou desimportante no contexto.
